The German coach made seven changes from the side that lost 3-0 Watford on Saturday with goals from Willian and Ross Barkley, which brought Liverpool’s third loss in two weeks.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were both used for the fifth round tie on Stamford Bridge, but Klopp defended his decision not to play a team at full strength.
“Losing 2-0 is not a good thing, but in this case it is relatively easy to explain that we made two massive mistakes in the goals,” said Klopp.
‘Tonight’s performance was completely different from the performance against Watford. It was really bad against Watford. It wasn’t bad tonight.
“I liked the reaction. I liked how we played. There were some good things.
“It was a super intense game. We made seven changes because we knew it was going to be intense. But I’m not worried about the dynamics. It’s soccer.
“We never thought that it would be an easy season, that it would be an easy time, that it would be an easy game tonight.
“It was always difficult, but we did it very well. We just weren’t good enough at crucial moments and we have to accept that. “
Two players who joined Liverpool’s starting lineup on Tuesday night were Takumi Minamino and young right-back Neco Williams in January.
